Elyse + Jason’s outdoor summer wedding at Meadow Muse, Fish Creek Provincial Park in Calgary, Alberta

We met Elyse and Jason for drinks in the winter when we were in the beginning stages of potentially photographing their wedding. They were so, so sweet, and we crossed all our fingers that we’d get the opportunity because of how great they were to chat with. Jason had the slightest eastern Canada accent and they told us all about their families and how many people from the east were coming all the way to Calgary to be there.

It was the perfect summer day to have an outdoor wedding where you didn’t melt to death. Poor Elyse managed to get sick so she barely had a voice for most the day, but you couldn’t tell for even a second that she was out of sorts. She was such a trooper. Their first look was quiet, intimate, and only for them. We hung back and let them invite us back into their space when they were finished exchanging their personal vows for only them to share. Later in the ceremony, anytime Elyse was near Jason they would admire each other as the other spoke. We caught a few photos of that occurring down below, and they are some of our favourite tender moments.

The rest of the day involved only siblings in the bridal party and plenty of Alpine beer back from the east coast to round out all the laughter. The ceremony involved the cutest of all ring bearers and a vase of flowers up at the front to remember those in their lives that were no longer with them. The reception decor was simple and paid homage to all the breweries they love going to, both local and across Canada. The meal consisted of the staples, but then, of course, you need some east cost flair thrown in there with oysters and scallops. Golden hour came and went as they danced in the tall grass behind the venue.
